Pakistan (The Islamic Republic of Pakistan) is a developing country with a semi-industrialized economy centered along the Indus River. Long lasting internal political disputes, a fast-growing population and mixed levels of foreign investment have for decades impacted the country's economy.
 
Pakistan is currently undergoing a process of economic liberalization, including a privatization program of government corporations that aims to attract foreign investment. Major sectors of the economy include: agriculture, mining and industry (IT, construction, textiles and others).
 
Foreign nationals traveling for business can obtain a five-year Business Visa through a Pakistani consular post abroad, provided that they are citizens of one of approximately 68 countries that form a "List of Business Friendly Countries" (BVL). The maximum allowable duration of stay in three months at a time. Alternatively, nationals of the BVL countries can obtain a 30-day visa-on-arrival in Pakistan, subject to holding a recommendation or invitation letter from an approved authority in Pakistan.
 
Foreign nationals entering Pakistan for more than 90 days, or those seeking employment, must obtain a work authorization (work visa). Work visas are granted for up to two years with a possibility of extension.
