About Chile

Whether your company is sending employees to Chile or expanding your worldwide footprint—Fragomen is here to help. Our experienced immigration professionals partner with businesses of all sizes to develop immigration strategies that can help you achieve your goals.

    • Chilean law provides several options for employers of foreign nationals. These include a streamlined short-term work permit option, temporary visas, and permanent residence. Requirements, processing times, employment eligibility and benefits for accompanying family members vary by visa classification.
    • A business entry authorization is required for business activities in Chile, which are generally limited to attending internal or client meetings and receiving training. Foreign nationals should secure a Short-Term Work Authorization if they intend to conduct any activities beyond business activities.
    • Foreign nationals seeking to reside and work in Chile must obtain a Temporary Residence Visa. The Temporary Residence Visa has 16 subcategories, including workers (both self-employed or employed by a company) performing remunerated work in Chile; executives or directors traveling regularly to Chile to perform investment and business activities; seasonal workers; foreign nationals with direct family ties in Chile, and those seeking to enter Chile for medical treatment or religious purposes, among others. It is generally granted for two years and may be renewed in two-year increments at the discretion of immigration authorities.
    • Chile currently has associate member status in MERCOSUR, a South American trade bloc. Citizens of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay can apply for a two-year, nationality-based temporary residence visa. No corporate sponsorship is required for this permit.

Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.

Fragomen in Chile is Servicios Migratorios Chile Ltda.
