​Paraguayan law provides short-term and long-term work authorization options to foreign nationals seeking to work in the country. Paraguay is a member of the Mercosur Treaty. Requirements, processing times, employment eligibility and benefits for accompanying family members vary by visa classification.
 
Visa-waived nationals can enter Paraguay without a visa as tourists/nonresidents to conduct business activities. Visa nationals require a consular visa to enter Paraguay. Non-resident entries are generally granted for 90 days, extendable once for an additional 90 days, for a maximum of 180 days in a 12-month period.
 
Foreign nationals seeking to work in Paraguay must secure work authorization. The most common types are:
• Short-term Transitory Residence (Residencia Precaria) - valid for six months and renewable once for six additional months
• Temporary Residence - valid for one year, renewable for a maximum of five times
• Mercosur​​​ Temporary Residence - for nationals of Mercosur Treaty countries, valid for two years and renewable once for the same term
