About United Arab Emirates

Whether your company is sending employees to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or expanding your worldwide footprint—Fragomen is here to help. Our experienced immigration professionals partner with businesses of all sizes to develop immigration strategies that can help you achieve your goals.

  • The United Arab Emirates immigration system provides several options for employers of foreign nationals. The UAE is a federation of seven emirates. Each emirate follows federal laws but also has its emirate-specific legislation. Various free trade zones (free zones) have been established across the country to offer flexible business regulations and streamlined immigration processes.
  • The UAE offers a range of visa categories tailored to different purposes of stay. Visit visas include those for tourism, business exploration, and medical treatment, as well as an entry visa for residents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States and their accompanying persons.
  • Depending on nationality, business visitors may enter the UAE through visa-exempt entry, visa-on-arrival, or a pre-arranged visa, with the permitted stay typically ranging from 30 to 90 days and, in some cases, up to a maximum of 180 days under the applicable entry policy.
  • The visit visa for a work assignment (also known as the Mission Visa or Mission Work Permit) provides short-term work authorization in the mainland and certain free zones.
  • Residency visas without work for a UAE employer cover study, remote work, and property ownership, while those with work include the standard visa for contractual employment (also referred to as an Employment Residence Permit).
  • Holders of self-sponsored long-term visas, such as the Green, Golden, or Blue Visa, must obtain separate work authorization to be employed. The Green Visa targets skilled workers, freelancers, and the self-employed; the Golden Visa is granted to top investors, talent, and achievers; and the Blue Visa is reserved for contributors to environmental sustainability.

Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
