- The immigration laws of Mozambique provide several options for employers of foreign nationals. Requirements, processing times, employment eligibility, and benefits for accompanying family members vary by visa classification.
- Business visitors can obtain a business visa (eVisa) to conduct business activities for up to 30, 60 or 90 days. A consular visa is generally issued for 30 days.
- Short-Term Work: Foreign national employees in the mining and oil and gas industry who intend to conduct short-term work in Mozambique may use the Short-Term Work Permit for the mining, oil & gas sector. This permit is generally valid for six months and allows a stay of up to 180 days per calendar year. For sectors other than mining and oil and gas, the Short-Term Work Permit is available as an alternative and permits a stay of up to 120 days per calendar year. Upon expiry, a new application may be submitted; however, approval at the discretion of the Labour Directorate. Once their Short-Term Work Permit approved, foreign nationals must obtain a Work Visa prior to entering Mozambique. Upon arrival, the Work Visa may be extended in-country to align with the validity of the Short-Term Work Permit. Foreign nationals assigned to the Rovuma Basin may enter on a business visa on arrival while their Short-Term Work Permit application is being processed.
- Long-Term Work: There are two broad categories of work authorization types in Mozambique: Long-Term Work Permit (In Quota) and Long-Term Work Permit (Outside Quota, COE).
