About Hong Kong SAR

Whether your company is sending employees to Hong Kong or expanding your worldwide footprint—Fragomen is here to help. Our experienced immigration professionals partner with businesses of all sizes to develop immigration strategies that can help you achieve your goals.

  • Hong Kong is a special administrative region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China. The Hong Kong SAR immigration system provides for a range of temporary stays including visits for business or tourism, as well as longer-term routes for training, study, employment, and investment. Immigration requirements are policy-based rather than set out in legislation.
  • Most nationals are visa exempt for short business or social visits. Non-exempt foreign nationals must obtain a Business Visitor Visa before visiting Hong Kong SAR. This visa is valid for up to 180 days depending on their nationality.
  • The main work authorization category is the General Employment Policy (GEP), valid for up to 36 months or for the duration of the employment contract, whichever is shorter. The GEP does not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Cuba, or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).
  • Chinese nationals who are residents of mainland China are subject to special immigration procedures and categories and may be ineligible for certain visa programs.

Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.

Fragomen in Hong Kong is Fragomen (Hong Kong) Ltd., operating exclusively as an immigration consultancy and not a law firm in Hong Kong.

Get in touch with Fragomen and one of our team members will be in touch with you shortly.
