The Ugandan business immigration system has processes for business visits, short-term work authorization and long-term assignments. There are several categories of work authorization, including categories for agriculture workers (Class B), mining (Class D), businessmen (Class D), manufacturing (Class E), and professionals (Class F), among others. Foreign nationals may file for one of these work permits while in Uganda as a business visitor.

There are two types of business visas in Uganda.  The first is the single-entry business visa, obtained at the port of entry into Uganda, granted for a period of 14-60 days. The second category is the multiple-entry visa, which can only obtained from the immigration office. It can be granted for a period of 6-12 months, 24 months or 36 months.

There are two forms of work authorization for intracompany transferees in Uganda, depending on the length of the assignment: (1) A Special Pass, which grants short-term work authorization for an initial period of three months, renewable twice in one-month increments (for a total of five months); and (2) An Entry Class G Permit, which grants long-term work authorization for an initial period of two years. This Permit may be renewed every two years.

Foreign nationals may apply for both forms of work authorization concurrently. The Special Pass can grant work authorization while the Entry Class G Permit application is pending.
