- Qatar’s immigration system provides limited options for employers of foreign nationals, and immigration regulations allow a high level of discretion at each step of the process. Requirements, processing times, employment eligibility and benefits for accompanying family members vary by visa classification.
- Foreign nationals who require a pre-approved visa to enter Qatar may apply for an entry visa online via the Hayya platform. Visas issued via the Hayya platform allow multiple entries and a stay of up to 30 days. Hayya platform applicants may request an Entry Visa with the purpose of visit as “Business Meeting or Convention Participation” which allows visa holders to conduct light business activities, such as meetings. The option to attend business meetings is also available to foreign nationals eligible for visas-on-arrival. Visas-on-arrival and Hayya visas do not permit hands-on work activities.
- Foreign nationals seeking short or long term employment in Qatar must secure a Work Visa and Residence Permit or a Multiple Entry Work Visa through the sponsorship of a Qatari host entity. If the sponsoring entity is established in the Qatar mainland, a labor quota Block Visa must be obtained. The Block Visa specifies the number of visas awarded for individuals of a specified nationality and gender for a defined job title. Once a Block Visa that matches a candidate’s profile — based on job title, nationality, and gender — is available, a Work Visa, valid for up to 90 days for entry to Qatar, is issued. Additionally, if operating in one of Qatar’s free trade zones or free trade zone-like areas, requirements will vary.
