Restricted Entry Visa: Citizens from certain countries require a restricted visa that needs to be approved by the Immigration Office Director. We assist companies supporting employees with the preparation and obtainment of this visa.
Consular Visa: Citizens from certain countries require a consular visa to enter Chile. We prepare the company-supported documentation necessary to obtain this visa.
Assistance to get Chilean Driver’s license (requires Chilean ID card and car to take the tests). Test materials and accompanying the client to the transit office to schedule and take the tests.
Fragomen's fixed transactional fees include a range of benefits for which other firms charge significant fees. For example, our clients have access to Fragomen’s proprietary, worldwide case management portal, which allows authorized stakeholders and assignees within their company to track cases in progress, current status, and critical expiration dates.
Chile immigration law includes special categories to grant temporary work permits, and our firm can prepare and file these applications. If companies are registered with the Immigration Office, we can also advise if and when temporary residency is preferable.
Temporary residency allows employees to work with the sponsoring company and reside in Chile. Fragomen prepares files and provides additional support for temporary residency applications filed with the National Immigration Directorate in Chile.
Renewal: We assist companies and individuals with the renewal of their employees’ temporary residency status. We submit the corporate and personal documentation required for this renewal.
Cancellation: When assignments end in Chile, companies are required by law to cancel the temporary residency status of their employees. Our office prepares and files cancellation applications on behalf of our clients, working in close partnership with corporate stakeholders.
Exit Permit for Children: Foreign nationals under the age of eighteen, who become temporary residents in Chile, and underage citizens of Chile, require a special permit from local authorities to exit the country. Fragomen in Santiago assists our clients with this procedure.
Our individual case unit team assists retirees and individuals who may demonstrate a certain level of fixed income with acquiring residency in the country.
Business visitor status is generally not appropriate for visitors coming to install or repair machinery, computer software, or equipment, or to perform other technical duties at either an affiliated company or a client site. For these and other short-term visits, Fragomen in Santiago is available to consult with clients to determine the appropriate permit and/or visa based on the specific circumstances of the case.
While waiting for the work permit included as part of the visa process, which can take approximately 30-45 working days, we can obtain a renewable permit to work as a tourist, which lasts 30 days and allows the client to start working immediately.
We assist individuals or companies that wish to change their employee’s status from temporary to permanent residents. Permanent residency can be obtained once employees have legally resided in the country for two years as temporary residents, or if they have kinship with a Chilean national. We prepare the request application for this purpose.
Renewal: We prepare and submit the personal documentation required for the renewal of permanent residency status of foreign nationals in Chile.
We can assist with applications for new passports, passport renewals, or to add additional passport pages. We can also assist our clients with replacing their residency cards, if required.
We provide full support to dependents involved in immigration processes in Chile. Specifically, we guide assignees on the optimum immigration strategies for accompanying dependents, partnering closely with them to prepare all required documentation for timely application processing in Chile, and to help them maintain compliance with immigration process requirements for the duration of their stay. In addition, we assist with renewals and/or changes to dependent immigration status, and follow up with authorities on a regular basis throughout the application process.
Fragomen’s broad geographic coverage allows us to provide consular support at diplomatic missions in many jurisdictions, including in Chile.
In partnership with other Fragomen offices worldwide, we can procure and authenticate documents where official documents are required for immigration applications. In providing document services for clients, we work with both Chilean authorities and foreign missions based in Chile. In addition, we can coordinate with certified translators to obtain sworn translations where these are required for immigration-related applications.
Our firm assists qualifying foreign nationals with applying for Chilean citizenship based on factors such as marriage to a Chilean national or number of years as a resident, among other qualifying conditions.
Dependent to Permanent: We assist executives that apply for residency with a company registered with the immigration authorities who may be granted a work permit and Chilean residency. Dependents, however, are only granted status as temporary residents. If eligible, our firm helps dependents to change their condition to “principal” to enable them to work.
Temporary to Permanent Residency: Temporary residents who have enjoyed that condition for three years, or temporary residents with kinship with a Chilean national, can change their status to permanent residents. Our firm prepares and files these applications on behalf of our clients.

M&A, Large Scale Projects, Back to Back Rotational Assignments
With an intensifying regulatory environment, businesses involved in corporate restructuring activities, large scale projects, back-to-back rotational assignments and exports face a unique set of challenges and compliance roadblocks in the cross-border movement of workers. Fragomen provides guidance and support to companies of all sizes on the immigration impact of these complex ventures. We act as a strategic partner to help you execute project needs through compliant—yet practical—immigration solutions.
M&As and Corporate Restructuring
Analysis during mergers and acquisitions (M&A), divestures and other types of corporate restructuring activities are typically focused on the “big-picture” and mitigating financial risks—often overlooking the critical area of immigration compliance. Corporate changes without adequate consideration of immigration impacts can lead to serious repercussions for essential employees and the success of the merger.
Fragomen has been helping businesses navigate the immigration-related aspects of corporate activities for decades. Our due diligence investigations include a thorough immigration status analysis, impact determination and management of necessary immigration activities.
Project Support
Large scale projects around the world often require the simultaneous movement of dozens to hundreds of employees, presenting different challenges based on the number of employees, their roles and credentials, and the countries involved.
We can work closely with you on project undertakings to provide guidance on maintaining compliance with local immigration processes regulations. In partnership with you, we can build custom action plans in line with your priorities and targets, helping you to stay on track and achieve your project goals.
Rotational and Back-to-Back Assignments
The use of short-term assignments such as rotational and multiple or back-to-back assignments continues to rise. In reaction, many countries have tightened their programs and implemented heavy penalties for immigration violations. While helping to control costs and build your global operations, the rapid deployment of employees to foreign countries can create myriad compliance concerns.
We help hundreds of companies around the world manage the immigration risk associated with short-term cross-border travel. We can help you understand the intricacies and challenges, and guide you on proactive strategies for avoiding common pitfalls and incorporating compliance into your overall plan.
