The Bahamas Immigration Services

Bahamian law provides short- and long-term options to help employers of foreign nationals. Requirements, processing times, and employment eligibility vary by work permit classification.

Business visitor status is generally limited to visits of less than two weeks to conduct business/client meetings where there is no financial gain. Business visitors must send a notice to the Department of Immigration or the Airport Superintendent of Immigration in the Bahamas 72 hours before travel.

Short-term workers planning to engage in gainful occupation (i.e. employment) in the Bahamas require a Short-Term Work Permit, generally issued for up to 30 days and extendable for a maximum consecutive stay of 90 days.

Foreign nationals who intend to work in the Bahamas beyond 90 days must obtain a Long-Term Work Permit which allows stays of up to three years and can be renewed indefinitely.

The Bahamian Department of Immigration retains sole discretion for how long a foreign national may remain in the country.

The Bahamas also offers the Bahamas Extended Access Travel Stay (BEATS) permit, which allows professionals and students to work and study remotely/online from the Bahamas for up to one year (extendable for up to three years).
